Food Rescue Program (paused)

FISH partners with the Grand Blanc Community Schools to “rescue” unused foods from their cafeterias. At the end of the day, the items such as pizza, hamburgers, mac/cheese, mashed potatoes, vegetables, cookies, and much much more that had to be thrown away. As a participant in the Food Rescue Genesee County Project, the foods are frozen to be picked up on a bi-weekly by FISH to be distributed. During our first year – 2018-2019, the schools rescued some 6,000#’s which also included apples, milk and dairy products. Unfortunately, due to Covid in the 2020-2021 school year primarily pre-packed items were served. However, as soon as the CDC lifts the current food service guidelines, the program will be reinstituted.
